Cables -1 to 4- was recorded in my apartment in Norfolk, Virginia (2008)

Cannibal king -5 to 9- was recorded late at night in a gigantic empty storefront in downtown Seattle. except for the songs that were recorded in sweet Virginia. it is mostly about sex and death, though not at the same time. the title track was written on a farm in Chile. fact. (2012)

Track Name: Seren
heaviest stone in your pack
i weigh you, weigh you down
dry as a bone, you would not listen
drown me out
Track Name: Count Your Gold
house on the hill
we are the top
eyes on the prize

house on the hill
we are the pulse
eyes on the prize
count your gold

hey the house is ours, my love
hey the credit's ours, my love
hey the wolves are ours, my love

house on the bay
we are the pulse
eyes on the prize
count your gold
Track Name: Owl
only sound are the wings of an owl
the bony light from the moon out on the pines
white needles on the ground
and i've been out with the pack dogs
learning to live by my teeth
Track Name: Cables
we slept through the longest day
laid out in the grass
cables stretching overhead
buzzing telegrams from japan

drove through a lightning storm to the coast
and dove in without our clothes
speeding on the way back home
you were quiet and I, I was lost
Track Name: Cannibal King
head up, head up on a spike for the crowd
the cannibal king takes a bite and takes a bow
but yeah, the conquest is wearing him down

last on his mind when the candle goes out
the carpenter thinks how the house will come down
a decade or two and the weather wins out

singing, "long days, long days coming."
singing, "hard times, hard times again."

darling, you're a terrible beauty right now
a cannibal queen with your red talons out
and yeah, i'm just the blood in your mouth

last on his mind when the torch lights go out
the cannibal king dreams of cornfields and plows
and yeah, the quiet strength of the carpenter's house

singing, "long days, long days coming."
singing, "hard times, hard times again."
Track Name: Racer
it's a lawless state for the moment
there's a violent god
and in the godless rage spilling out over us
we are all small

in the lilac sun we are flat-backed on the ground
where our lives ran thin
we were cut from cloth, you cut us off
as you turn to leave
it's a red silence, it's a dead calm

we're the weightless ones, we're a turn of phrase on your tongue
we are headline black
we're a pool of blood, an article that you turn to read
it's a red silence, it's a dead calm
Track Name: Secret
when they call off the search for you
they'll not have found a trace
you're easy to miss lying in a weedy ditch

physical love and violence
are closer than cousins
it's easy, my love, to get carried away in the moment

and when i die, they'll bury me
and with me the secret
it's easy to miss if you're not looking in the right place
Track Name: Weight
climb up and raise the dead
that once cast a shadow and walked like a man
our weight could have stopped a train
but heavy in life is weightless in death
hung by my heels, hung by my toes
the stories are old, stories are old
hung like a lion, hung like a mole

oh lord, making up for lost time

i wake and walk at night
hungry for sleep but i sleep in the light
i slept around a lot
wasted the harvest, none left for crops
hung like a lion, hung like a mole
the stories are old, stories are old
hung by my heels, hung by my toes

oh lord, making up for lost time
Track Name: Hovercars
we're all gonna die, we're just lobsters in the pot
but that don't change a lot, the plot just thickens up
and i catch myself in thought
as if i'll be around to see the future coming on
they'll have hovercars and robot stripper bars

my great grandmother was ninety-six when death showed up
i bet she acted tough, i bet she laughed him off
and i catch myself in thought
as if i'll be around to hear the midnight boarding calls
evacuate to mars

but we'll just take it all, we'll just take it all along
all the hovercars
